The following organizations and publications offer useful ideas that you can use to grow your design business.

  • American Institute of Graphic Arts: The purpose of the AIGA is to further excellence in communication design as a broadly defined discipline, strategic tool for business and cultural force. The AIGA is the place design professionals turn to first to exchange ideas and information, participate in critical analysis and research and advance education and ethical practice.

  • The Association of Professional Design Firms: An organization dedicated to elevating the standards of professional business practice for design consulting firms. APDF does so by open exchange of information, creation of opportunities to share and learn, and distribution of useful and pertinent business data.

  • Design Management Institute: Helps design managers become leaders in their profession; collects, organizes, and makes accessible a body of knowledge; educates managers and policy makers; sponsors, promotes, and conducts research; and advocates for the economic and cultural importance of design.

  • Industrial Designers Society of America: IDSA is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimize the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of both user and manufacturer. Industrial designers develop these concepts and specifications through collection, analysis and synthesis of data guided by the special requirements of the client or manufacturer. They are trained to prepare clear and concise recommendations through drawings, models and verbal descriptions.

  • Society for Environmental Graphic Design: An international, design organization to promote public awareness and professional development of the field of environmental graphic design. Environmental design is the planning, design and executions of graphic elements in the built and natural environment. It includes communication systems that identify, direct, inform, interpret and visually enhance the environment.
